When the Dot NET generic domain extension was first introduced in 1985, along with the first domain extensions on the World Wide Web, it was planned to be used by Internet Service Providers or infrastructure establishments. Taking into account that there were no special regulations about the usage of the TLD, though, dot NET domains were registered and used for diverse purposes and by scores of people. This TLD is a great alternative to dot COM, particularly if the desired domain with the latter extension is not available for registration.
